There are plenty of things to do in Budapest even in winter. The weather might be cold but you can warm yourself up by some fun activities or eating, drinking typical winter treats. Let’s see a list of things to do in Budapest in winter.

#1. Ice skating on the biggest open air ice rink of Central Europe is among the most popular winter activities in the city either for locals or tourists. In the City Park with the lit-up Vajdahunyad Castle in the background ice skating is fun. You can drink mulled wine or hot tea and forget about the cold.

#2. In December the top attraction among things to do in Budapest are the Christmas markets. In our city only Hungarian made products of good quality are allowed to sell on the Christmas markets, which makes them very special and attractive. Christmas markets are at several locations, the most popular ones on Vörösmarthy square and at Saint Stephen Basilica.

You can taste Hungarian specialities such as lángos (fried bread) which you can eat with sour cream and cheese and some garlic if you like – very filling and warms you up. Drinking mulled wine or punch (with or without alcohol) while you are walking around the wooden stalls gives some extra to the festive spirit.

#3. Take a cruise on the Danube on a heated ship – a pleasure you should not miss! You can have lunch or dinner or choose to skip eating and take the cruise with a welcome plus another drink (included in the price). Need suggestion which company to use? Drop me a line.

#4. Snow and people wrapped up warmly in the street – and you are in swim suit soaking in hot water  open air? YES! One of the most  popular things to do in Budapest even in winter – is going to the spa. Either you choose the biggest one, Szechenyi in the City Park or the fancy Gellert on Buda side of the Liberty bridge – you will definitely have a unique experience.
